~ Favourites ~

Favourite Skyler line – “MILFs.. what the hell is a MILF?”

Favourite Walt Jr line – “The wonder bra.. it’s.. the wonder bra..”

Favourite Walt line – “I’m sorry, what were you asking me? Oh, yes, that stupid plastic container I asked you to buy. You see, hydrofluoric acid won’t eat through plastic; it will however dissolve metal, rock, glass, ceramic. So there’s that.”

Favourite Jesse line(s) – “We got loose ends here” – “I always dreamt about, I dunno, melting bodies”

Favourite Jesse/Walt exchange –

Walter: – “After we finish cleaning up this mess, we will go our separate ways. Our paths will never cross and we will tell this to no one. Understood?”

Jesse: – “Oh what, I can talk now? [pause] Fine! That goes double for me!”

Favourite scenes –

The flipping a coin scene – though pretty much all of the Jesse/Walt scenes in this episode are somewhat epic.

Jesse pretending to be a telemarketer.

Skyler listening to the answering machine message Jesse has.

Walt loading Crazy 8 into the car.

Skyler and Jesse meeting.

The hallway scenes.

Notable Music –

You’re Movin’ Me by Clyde McPhatter – – when Walt is moving Crazy 8 from the lawn and loading him into the boot of the Aztec.

Ending Song – The Hole by Glen Phillips – click here for the Glen Phillips website. This song, while wonderful for the clip they used it for, is actually a brilliant song by itself. You should listen to the whole thing. Just trust Snoskred on this one. Click through to the song on youtube by clicking on The Hole link above.

Snoskred will now like to mention that she has a lot of the music from the Breaking Bad soundtrack on her iPhone, and both these two songs above as well as the songs from last week and many more songs in upcoming episodes are in regular rotation. Don’t you love it when a show introduces you to great new artists?

Jesse Lightbulb Moment #2 – Why use a plastic container when you have a perfectly good bathtub? This one not quite so genius. 🙂

Notable Shots –

This is where I really miss not having a podcast for the first season because it is likely they would have told the story of how they got this shot.

Yep, that is Bryan Cranston, completely naked on the bathroom floor. Awesome use of matching up the images with the credits!

Episode Running Time on DVD – 46min 15secs

DVD Extras – Inside Breaking Bad – The Gore (talks about chemical disincorporation)

Snoskred Notes –

I love that we go back in time after the cold open to getting the RV out of the ditch. Walt is such a terrible liar, telling the story about how they got there. We get to see Walt and Jesse making their plans on what to do next.

Two notes on chemical dis-incorporation.

For some people, this episode was the episode where they stopped watching, just purely based on what fell from the ceiling. Breaking Bad is quite a dark show overall, and the show is all about putting the characters into difficult and tough situations and watching them scramble to get out of those situations..

If this episode went too far for you, then this show might not be for you. On the other hand, you will be missing out on some of the greatest acting ever seen on television screens. So if you can soldier on, I think you’ll find the show worthwhile. Remember that the stuff is fake and this is a TV show. I’ve seen worse stuff on Law and Order and CSI. 🙂

Note two – Mythbusters busted this myth on their Breaking Bad episode. If you are wanting to dispose of a body, chemical dis-incorporation is not your best option. I don’t want to spoil any upcoming episodes and the Breaking Bad Mythbusters episode did cover things that happen in upcoming episodes, so I will not link to that episode of Mythbusters here. I will link to it in the season wrap up post for season one.

However, in the meantime, there is this great post if you want to read about the chemistry used here –

The science of Breaking Bad: Cat’s in the Bag
